Question about the output file for TCEC games

Post by GreenHornet » Tue Dec 01, 2015 5:13 am

Following is a small snippet from a output file from a TCEC pgn game.

139.Rxd6 { ev=-0.64, d=22, pd=Qxd6, mt=00:00:53, tl=00:03:50, s=3219 kN/s, n=75780854, pv=Rxd6 Qxd6 Re7 Qd5 Kg1 Bd6 Rd7 Qf3 Qe1 Bb4 Qa1 Kh7 Qd1 Qxh3 Kf2 Bc5 Ke1 Qe3 Qe2 Qc3, tb=0, R50=50, }
Qxd6 { ev=-0.77, d=22, pd=Re7, mt=00:00:17, tl=00:26:02, s=8265 kN/s, n=143382721, pv=Qxd6 Re7 Qd5 Kg1 Bd6 Rd7 Qf3 Qe1 Bb4 Qa1 Kh7 Qb2 Bc5 Kh2 Bd6 Rxd6 Qf4 Kg2 Qxd6, tb=0, R50=50, }

I understand that in the evaluation that there can be either an ev= or wv= or I think they both can be present. I have searched all over and can not find any definition for these variables?? In either case what I don't understand in the example I have listed here is how can one engine evaluate it at ev=-0.64 fo white and its followed by ev=-0.77 for blacks move. Is there a document that explains tis stuff or is there someone out here who can help me.

Thanks in advance,

Les

This is supposedly ChessGUI output.
Martin Thoresen wrote:None of that is junk, it contains all the info that you can see on the main page.

ev=evaluation d=depth mt=move time tl=time left s=speed pv=principal variation tb=tablebase hits r50=distance to 50-move rule
This PGN format is native ChessGUI since none of the other formats supports those extras.

You can use ChessGUI to convert to other formats (it has an option in the drop-down menu) but as already said
most of this extra information will be lost in that case.

All modern GUIs can choose whether to display the extra info or not so in any case these PGNs are just fine to load in any GUI,
for example Fritz or Arena.
As of yet, I unable to find any documentation for what the ChessGUI fields mean.

Hi BB,

Thanks for the response however there are still questions that have not been answered. #1 what governs when ev= is used versus wv= and #2 why is the sign of the evaluation I posted negative for both white and blacks move??

Thanks,

Les
