I just lost a game against a strong OTB opponent that was running on slow hardware, the principle of the loss came from superior understanding on engine's weakness (besides chess), he caused me a severe static weakness that no engine understood.

I was aware of the problem (that I was on a possibly losing position where engines didn't know what was going on) but couldn't manage to save the game. In fact, 4 moves before I resigned, I kept going on because engines didn't know what moves were needed to win, either.

No amount of hardware or better engines would have helped. Engines are relatively happy in this possibly lost position:

b2r4/p1b1qp1k/2p3pp/P1n1P3/2B3Q1/5NN1/5PPP/4R1K1 w - -

And so, show incredibly close to 0.00 scores on this super-dangerous position (that black should avoid at all costs):

br1r2k1/p1bnqpp1/1pp1p2p/P1P5/1P1PN3/3B1N2/4QPPP/1RR3K1 b - -

The game was eye opening, no analysis method that I can conceive would have helped me, but being a better OTB player with a better understanding of chess could have done it.

I find that as evidence that studying chess can be more fruitful than downloading the latest engines or upgrading your hardware.

DR4 SSE42 is not happy after 4 1/2 hours in my i7 Quad @3,8 GHz:
> ± (+1.27) d=25 1.a6 Ba5 2.Re3 Bb6 3.h4 Rd1 4.Kh2 Ne6 5.Rb3 c5 6.h5 (4:37:57) 8775231kN

b2r4/p1b1qp1k/2p3pp/P1n1P3/2B3Q1/5NN1/5PPP/4R1K1 w - - 0 1

Thank you for the answer. You are right but it may be the exclusion. :-)

From the other side there could be many c GM's which get title due to the program analysis power.
There was a person GM who wrote that he was winning due to the programm power and limited number of played games.

I said "relatively" happy, 3...Rd1+ (4.Nf1!) loses by force, the engine should at least show a +5.00 for that line.
