Ippo & co. tournament

Post by DrChess » Thu Feb 17, 2011 5:45 am

I´ve been reading on forums that Tankist is a copy of Robbolito (not a derivate but a copy, i.e. Robbolito renamed) but does anybody know exactly what version of Robbolito is the one supposed to be the cloned one?
I ran a double round-robin tournament of the Ippo family of engines including derivates, clones, copies, etc. etc. (I really don´t care about that legal crap) as well as a few other controversial engines and it seems Tankist is stronger than the newest version of Robo I could find.

It is clear that Houdini is still the best of the bunch though...

Code: Select all

    Engine Score Ho Ta Fi Iv Ip Ro Ig Fi St Cy S-B
01: Houdini 1.5a    12.5/18 ·· =1 10 1= == 0= 10 11 11 11   98,25
02: Tankist 1.7     11.5/18 =0 ·· 11 == 10 1= == 11 1= 01   96,75
03: FireBird 1.1    11.0/18 01 00 ·· == =1 1= == 01 11 11   86,00
04: IvanHoe 999947c 11.0/18 0= == == ·· 1= == 0= 1= 11 11   84,50
05: IppoLit 0.080a  10.0/18 == 01 =0 0= ·· 1= =1 =1 10 1=   83,50
06: RobboLito 0.09  10.0/18 1= 0= 0= == 0= ·· == == 11 11   78,50
07: Igorrit 0.086v9 9.5/18  01 == == 1= =0 == ·· =0 =1 =1   82,25
08: Fire 1.31       6.0/18  00 00 10 0= =0 == =1 ·· 0= 01   51,75
09: Strelka 3R      5.0/18  00 0= 00 00 01 00 =0 1= ·· 1=   34,75
10: Cyclone xTreme  3.5/18  00 10 00 00 0= 00 =0 10 0= ··   29,75
All engines 32-bit versions as I don´t have a 64 bit CPU ( :cry: ).
Firebird 1.1 has Dr. Deeb´s settings. Only missing from this list was Deep Saros which I´ll include in a future tournament with longer time control and replacing Cyclone xTreme.
I understand very well that a single tournament like the above is not enough to determine ratings or anything like that but still, Tankist seemed very strong and it surprised me to see it finishing in 2nd place.

Regards.

180 games isn't much, but what were the time settings?

The most interesting part of this for me is the fact that Ippolit 0.080a is (given this sample size) just as competitive as any of the other engines. It's been nearly a year and half -- is Robert Houdart the only programmer who can improve that code?

Tankist is strong. However 2 latest Ivanhoe at about 50 elo stronger than the rest of that group. No improvements on the Ivanhoe group in a few weeks. Looks like they are at a standstill.
Indeed Houdini is at least 100 elo stronger than the Ivanhoe group.

Best,
Gerold.
