LTC Chess Match 2012

Houdini 3 x64 - Critter 1.6a 64-bit 9.0 - 6.0 +3/=12/-0 60.00%
Houdini 3 x64 - Deep Rybka 4.1 SSE42 x64 9.5 - 5.5 +4/=11/-0 63.33%
Houdini 3 x64 - Stockfish 2.3.1 JA 64bit 10.5 - 4.5 +7/=7/-1 70.00%
Houdini 3 x64 - Houdini 2.0c Pro x64 10.0 - 5.0 +5/=10/-0 66.67%

Time control 40/2.5 Hours, 16/1 hour

Houdini 3's only loss in the match came on game 55. Due in most part to a bad book line, but still a nice crush by Stockfish. That needed to show something in this match against Houdini 3 at long time controls.

The opening seems a bit disadvantageous.

There is a substantial advantage for white if he plays Ne2. Is that what you are referring to?

This is my analysis record for that position:

r1bqk2r/4bpp1/1nn1p3/pp1pP2p/2pP4/2P2NN1/PPB2PPP/R1BQR1K1 w kq - acd 34; acs 1770; bm Ne2; cce 0; ce 80; pm h4 {6} Qd2 {3} Nd2 {1} h3 {1}; pv Ne2 b4 Qd2 a4 Qf4 a3 bxa3 bxc3 Qg3 Kf8 Nxc3 Bd7 h4 Be8 Qf4 Kg8 Re2 g6 Rb1 Rh7 Ng5 Rg7 Re3 Ra5 Rg3 Kh8 Bd1 Kg8 a4 Ra6 a3 Kh8 Bc2 Nd7 Nf3 Rh7 Nb5 Nb6; white_wins 3; black_wins 3; draws 4;

Note the following:
1. The e.p. flag is superfluous and has been removed.
2. Nonstandard tag cce is the calculated ce, based on a formula involving wins losses and draws. Since the outcomes were balanced as far as actual game play, the value is zero for this record.
3. Nonstandard fields white_wins, black_wins, and draws have the obvious meanings. In this particular case, the values come from a database of high-end games involving 2600+ Elo OTB players in tournament play at slow time control, correspondence players of 2450+ Elo, and high end chess engines from standard tournaments.

The opening has not been played by a Good GM players in a long time. GM Korchnoi was the last good French expert to test this line in 2007 with 2 games and could not beat a 2200 and a 2400 elo player with this opening for black.

It is just a bad line for black, and has been abandoned by GM's for many years.

Data from Chessbase 12, running Megabase 13.
