new Fire 131 settings vs Firebird 11 DrDeeb

Post by randynq » Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:07 pm

i decided to make some settings for fire 131 to try to defeat drdeeb's firebird 11 since his seems to be stronger. the main issue i see with fire 131 is that it undervalues the rook. in some games it seems to make exchange sac's thinking it's good and then has to fight for a draw, so i tried these settings and they seem pretty good. i'll call them AD for anti-deeb. haha just joking around dr.

fire 131 AD settings:
contempt 75
pawn 115
rook 700 (trying to compensate for undervaluing)
queen 1000
bishop pair 75
everything else default.

i have amd athlon ii x2 dual 2.8ghz 64bit. each engine plays both white and black of each opening. 30 mins each for whole game, ponder off, no tablebases, 128 mb hash.

fire 131 AD +3=15-2 10.5/20 52.5%
firebird 11 drdeeb +2=15-3 9.5/20 47.5%

NID 4. e3.................... +0=2-0
Sicilian Richter-Rauser.... +1=1-0 131 won with black
Sicilian 5. Nb5.............. +0=2-0
Sicilian 6. Bc4.............. +0=2-0
French Winauer Adv....... +1=0-1 both won with white
Ruy Lopez Chigorin........ +0=2-0
Ruy Lopez Worrall......... +0=2-0
QGD Exch................... +0=1-1 131 lost with black
QID 4. g3.................... +1=1-0 131 won with white
KID 5. Nf3................... +0=2-0

obviously need to play a lot more games and lines and also other engines, but it looks pretty good in a few games played against houdini too.

Hi randyng,

Am I right that your setting is for 64bits? Do you think it would be equally effective/strong for 32 bits And would you like to post the games with Houdini, please?

Thank you,
Kah Huat, Koh

i really don't know how different 32bit would be; my guess is not much. i've played some games robbolito85 32bit vs 64bit very short blitz, for example, and i can't tell any difference at all.

houdini games i'll post results after i play a bunch more. i just started with this guy so i haven't had much time and also i don't want to waste thread space hehe

oh well, so much for these settings. i think they probably don't make it any better than default. either these settings or fire 131 itself just has a terribly passive, defensive, want-to-draw-every-game style that makes it very difficult to want to keep testing it so i'm giving this engine up and moving on to the zillion ivanhoes. hehe

fire 131 +1=12-3 7/16 43.75%
houdini 103a +3=12-1 9/16 56.25%

alekhine's................. +0=2-0
french winawer........... +1=1-0
NID e3..................... +0=2-0
sicilian dragon............ +0=2-2
sicilian richter-rauser.... +0=2-0
ruy lopez zaitsev......... +0=2-0
KID e4..................... +0=1-1

Yes a few will not get it.
However i have played around 1200 games 1.1 and 1.3 vs. Houdini 1.3 with about 5 diff. setting and Houdini still comes out 40elo
stronger than Fire. Fire seems to be about = to Rybka 3 and also = to Stockfish 1.7 and 1.8.
My testing now is for new setting for R4 and for Ivanhoe T 52. Vs. Houdini.
Houdini appears to be about = to R4 and Ivanhoe T52. Maybe Houdini has a very small edge.
If you have any new setting for any 3 of these engine would appreciate you posting them.
