Stockfish Shines Against DR4

Post by brinan » Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:47 pm

Stockfish 1.9.1 has won 4 games in a row against Deep Rybka 4 in my ladder challenge number 28.
Games can be played through here (each engine had 90 minutes).

But Rybka struck back in game 6. Maybe it will be like Korchnoi being up 5 wins to nil after 10 games against Spassky in 1977 Candidates Finals, and then losing 4 in a row. [Spassky claimed to be so annoyed by VK's board presence and/or antics that he took to, even on his move, sitting to the side and staring at a demonstration board rather than the board proper -- which then Korchnoi claimed to be the reason for the 4-peat. At a later stage, Spassky had a visor, sunglasses, goggles... but no yoghurt :P ].

Game 4 shows the differences in endgame evaluation, with them both showing 0.00 at various points, but Stockfish eventually prevailing. Game 2 is not fair in some ways, as it was RB vs R (after RB vs RP for awhile), and Rybka ended up losing via time forfeit, maybe because Nalimov loading took too long??! [The Details do not say if Nalimov is in use, but the 0.00 1-move PVs from Rybka indicate yes]. With a game-in-X time control this is more likely to happen.

Hello BB+.

Nalimov Tablebases are in use.

Alerted forum since so unusual DR4 in such a position. Agree DR4 could well come back. Houdini doesn't seem to be finding Stockfish a problem.

Must say, though, Stockfish 1.9.1 has become my favourite engine. Fewer draws, and usually knows when ahead before its opponents.

Regards.

Uh oh, must be a clone if it beats Rybka.

Alert the Rybka Police.
