my program didn't finish ply 1 after 5 min.

extreme case, for sure, but perhaps there is something wrong with what I allow for QS moves.. time for some debugging

Any bugs found? My engine takes 15 minutes for the first ply which is too long I guess...

if I only consider "good captures" in QS, it goes faster.
